On Sunday we picked apples at the Olmenhorst, a large country estate about 20 minutes from our home. We have been going there to pick apples for some years now. The first year, we could park our car next to the barn, in which they served apple pie and sold apple juice from the estate. Over the years the popularity of the Olmenhorst grew and grew. Now you have to park the car in a field, far from the barn. The barn has turned into a store with organic produce and lifestyle items. And the apple pie is served in a big white tent they put up in another field. It is still fun to go there, just different, and last Sunday we were almost the only ones that ventured out in the bad, bad weather. So we could at least park very close to the barn.
We picked 2 types of apples: Elstars and Santana's. And both are very good!
On Monday (an extra day off school for Damaris and Emil) Damaris baked an apple pie. She did it all by herself! I was only asked to help with peeling the apples. And I offered a little help when she accidentally 'greased' the springform with eggwash in stead of butter. I didn't want her to have the bad experience of not being able to get the pie out of the form after all that work.
I was very proud of Damaris. She worked so quietly and steadily. She never rushed or got frustrated, and just went through all the steps to get to the, delicious, end result. She was very proud too!
