In the first week of our summer vacation Frederik and I went to Copenhagen together. Damaris and Emil stayed at their Opa en Oma, so we had a genuine City Trip, with boring grown-up stuff, like a nice dinner without French fries and shopping in other shops than just the toy store...
So we went to Amusement Park Tivoli for dinner (haha, we didn't go in any of the rides though) and went to a toy store anyway because we couldn't leave without a Lego souvenir for Emil. But (while Frederik was working; he combined our trip with a meeting) I also went to several nice clothing stores and got myself three (!) great tops. I'll show them later. And of course we also took in some Danish design. We saw nice things everywhere (for instance at the Royal Cafe), and I actually bought something at Designer Zoo.
A ceramic brooch. I recognized it from a magazine I had at home, 101 woonideeën, so I felt super cool getting something that was featured in a magazine.
And on top of it all, the sun was out all the time. It was a great trip. I love Copenhagen!!!
Hello, just a quick wave from me, in between summer activities. I went to Copenhagen with Frederik, we had visitors from China, went to a wedding (Congratulations Rinny and Gerrit!), and now we are almost ready to go to Zeeland for vacation. Here is some music I'm listening to. Enjoy the summer!
We are off to China in a couple of days! It is the first time I've had to prepare like a tourist because the previous times we went, we only went to visit our family in Shanghai. But not this time: This time we are also going to Beijing and to Xian. We can, because we think Damaris and Emil are big enough now to enjoy some sight-seeing, but of course we have made sure that at least one of the hotels has a pool.
These are the plans: In Shanghai we'll have to find out how high the new tallest building has become since our last visit, and of course how tall our cousins Constantine and Amanda have become. In Beijing we want to see the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. In Xian we want to see the Terracotta Army, and it'll be very exciting because we will be without our family there, so we will have no help with the language...
Not too many specific plans because one of the important things is to try to soak up some of everyday life in the places we visit. In Shanghai we will try to take Constantine to school (this year our May vacation is longer than his) and see what his school is like. And we'll take Amanda to the playground and try to teach her some new Dutch words. When you live so far from your family it's really nice to experience some of what they do everyday. Have dinner with them, take their daily trips with them, play together. So that is still a big part of our plans, even if we are going to be tourists this time!
It's Chinese New Year! We wish our family in Shanghai a very happy Year of the Rat! We say: Gelukkig nieuwjaar and Emil (who is studying Chinese) says: Xin nian hao!
We are planning to visit China in this ratty year. In May we will go to Shanghai to see how big Constantine and Amanda have become and to see how Piter and Dan are doing. We are also planning to see some new places: Beijing and Xian. Now I hope they didn't send all their Terracotta warriors to Assen, here in the Netherlands, because we would like to see some of them there.
Mmm... judging from this picture, I'm sure it'll be fine!
( I borrowed both pictures in this post from Wikipedia)
