Another one about quilting

Recently I finished the top for a mini quilt with spiderweb blocks. I followed a tutorial that I found on Sew Mama Sew.

Mini quilts are traditionally a way to learn different techniques that are involved in making a quilt. I am using this spiderweb quilt like that as well. First I learned how to make the spiderwebs, and now I want to practice some hand quilting on it. I found fun instructions (and Q&A) on Anna Maria Horner's blog. 

Sew Mama Sew has another tutorial for a mini quilt, with a Dresden Plate block. Something new and interesting to learn!

And here, on Modify Tradition, is a great explanation of how to turn a mini quilt into a wall hanging!

It's about quilting

Look, these are all the blocks I made in the Pinwheel Sampler Quilt Along. Instead of 16 I made 25 blocks. So most blocks I made 3 times instead of 2. And I made 5 blocks #8 (instructions were: pick your favorite pinwheel and make that).

This is going to be a quilt for Emil, and he chose the fabrics himself. In the final quilt the blocks will be laid out in a different order. This is just sort of a summary of what I made. There will still be a lot of shuffling! (I think the block in the bottom right hand corner will go in the middle, but don't hold me to it)

Today Rachel will post about the sashing that will go in between the blocks. I already have some ideas about it but I want to see what she says first. I am learning a lot from this Quilt Along!
 

My creative space 18

Today (and everyday) my creative space is filled with WIP's, ideas and patterns.

I'm working on some blocks #7 of the Pinwheel Sampler Quilt Along (I can't recommend this project enough, it is so much fun!!)

I'm still tying that quilt for Damaris... (last week she said that she thought I would have it finished before the next winter; I was hoping it would be sooner, but maybe she is more realistic....)

In the middle of everything I started a new little project: some spiderweb blocks for a mini quilt. I'm following a tutorial I found on Sew Mama Sew by Oh, Fransson!

 

And talking about tutorials and patterns, I was super lucky and won a quilt pattern by Kate Conklin as a prize in the Fresh Modern Quilts flickr group giveaway. I chose the Charm Bracelets pattern! The pattern is really well explained and looks like a great way to showcase all the fabrics you love the most. Check out Kate's blog for all her patterns. Texel

This time about not about textile, but about Texel (there will still be some textile, don't worry).

Texel is an island in the north of the Netherlands. We went there last weekend.

We saw sheep and seals.

 

 

I saw two quilt shops (two more than in Leiden) and visited one: De Witte Engel. And bought some fabric, of course.

We cycled. We stayed in a nice hotel. We played games. We saw our favorite tv shows. We read our books and magazines. The weather was great. We had a great time!!!

And we even won a prize: a sausage! Dutch people will probably remember this: Heb je ook wel eens een leverworst gewonnen? (Have you ever won a liver wurst?); a quote from the tune to a children's tv show from when I was a teenager, Theo en Thea. Here's the song... (it's pretty weird!)

My creative space 17

I am being an angel today. Because I'm making an angel block for someone that didn't receive all her blocks in the first quarter of the 3x6 Bee on Flickr. This is my pile of fabric for today.

I will be using the Modify Tradition tutorial for the dandy block.

I myself didn't actually participate in the first quarter of the bee. I will be in the second quarter though. I'm in Beehive 8. I couldn't wait to start; that's why I offered to make the angel block.
